Every year, the Climate Champions Awards tells a story worth slowing down for.

It’s the story of people who aren’t waiting around to see what the future brings, but are actively shaping it. Leaders who understand that Florida’s warming climate requires smart planning, thoughtful design, and real action on the ground.

That’s why we’re excited to kick off the 2026 Climate Champions Awards by announcing our first Climate Champion Nominee: F. John LaCivita.

Often called the Academy Awards of Climate Adaptation, the Climate Champions Awards is known for its energy, inspiration, and yes, a little fun. But at its heart, this signature event celebrates leadership that strengthens our communities and helps protect our Florida way of life.

This year’s celebration will be co-hosted by Bob Bunting, CEO of the Climate Adaptation Center, alongside Elizabeth Moore, welcoming guests to a vibrant luncheon filled with powerful stories, meaningful insights, and the presentation of our stunning Beacon Crystal Lighthouse Statues to this year’s honorees.

Leaders like F. John LaCivita show that adaptation works. Thoughtful design, proactive planning, and resilient infrastructure reduce risk and protect communities today, while preparing us for tomorrow.

Celebrating climate adaptation matters because it shines a spotlight on solutions and the people making them happen. This event is not just a ceremony. It is a reminder that progress is possible and leadership makes a difference.
